Mannn you guys hear what happened in Lynchburg yesterday?
So Jerry's funeral was yesterday and there were all matter of celebrities and whatnot coming to it including Oprah (but no Republican presidential candidates) and the Westboro Baptist gang (I'm sure you've heard of them, their website is www.godhatesfags.com) were protesting Jerry for being sympathetic to homosexuals.
I think most people would be like wtf at that, but I'm going to be really unpopular and argue on Jerry's side for a moment. While Jerry has said and implied a lot of ridiculous things, a lot of things that are said about him are taken out of context - which is not hard because he does not make the efforts a public figure should to be more PC. Jerry was actually pretty good friends with this one Christian gay dood (I can't remember what the story is behind their friendship) but they got into an argument because the guy wanted Jerry to publicly say that it was okay to be homosexual, and Jerry would not because he believes that practicing homosexuality is a sin. The dood moved in to a house near Jerry's as a political statement, but they were still friendly and hung out and all that.
Anyways, that is not the point. Some grand Liberty University students were protesting the protesters, and one Liberty student had brought a bunch of bombs he manufactured and was planning on blowing shit up to stop the protesters.
Seriously, wtf?
Anyways, the police caught him and no harm was done, but seriously, maybe Liberty should consider raising their admission SAT score requirements to at least 500 or something.

JERRY IS DEAD!
okay I am in the middle of an exam right now, but noelle just IMed me with this information:
Jerry Falwell just died!!!
wow!
I actually feel kind of sad because he kind of is part of Lynchburg to me.
Also why did he have to die right when I am coming home? All I'm going to hear in local news/services/anything for the next 2 weeks is stuff about jerry.
Anyways this is a big deal. I wonder if there will be any changes to liberty. He had all these plans for it and was still in the middle of all them. He had just built a law school and a ice rink in the past year which have both made a big impact on the school.
I wonder if the school will go more liberal or conservative. It was wayway more conservative 10 years ago and had been becoming more liberal (though still crazyconservative by normal standards) and I know nothing about the characteristics of whatever board or whatever is in control with Jerry gone.
Also why couldn't he have died before he shaved all the trees off Candler's Mountain and put that hideous "LU" there?
This is weird. It's kind of like having a somewhat distant relative die.
okay back to my exam!

deep dish
has anybody ever heard of Deep Dish? it's this DJ duo that was playing at Ministry of Sound last night. yes, i realize nobody listens to techno but people were making it sound like these guys were a big deal and it would be awesome if i saw some famous House DJs while in Singapore.

muffin monday
it's muffin monday in southeast asia bitches! actually it was up until 3 minutes ago, but i did celebrate by eating muffins in foreign countries and taking pictures of it. they will be on facebook as soon as i can upload them.
so i'm in malaysia now which means alcohol is once again available. 18 is the legal drinking age which is bitchin. tomorrow i'm going snorkeling and clubbing and generally having a better spring break than you are. yes!
sorry i haven't had a chance to post. internet access is a rare luxury and i didn't bring my laptop. once i get back to singapore it'll be easier to update.

brunizzei mothafucka
yoyo i'm in brunei!!!
i landed in singapore two nights ago. we caught a plane to malaysia and spent the night there because we missed the bus. i slept for like 16 hours or something ridiculous because i was exhausted from all the flying. i'd gotten like 3 hours of sleep after 48 hours of traveling.
adrianne's german friend hans is with us. he is pretty dope and has been backpacking for a long time, including in south india, where i'm going over the summer.
holy shit it turns out brunei is a dry country. i am so fucking pissed. we're here for 5 days out of my spring break and i'm gonna be sober the whole time. goddamn i picked the wrong country. also brunei is way pricey. i can't wait to go back to singapore and go clubbin'. i am tryna get my swerve on yo.
more later hopefully,
william

Singafuckinpore Bitches
Heyhey kids as many of you know I leave for Singapore very early on Wednesday morning so tomorrow is my last day in town! I will be blogging periodically from Brunei and Malaysia and depending on whether or not I can get internet access frequently I may set up a separate travel blog. If not I will post either here or on my sister's blog whenever I get the chance.

rocks and ice.
After reading our posts have any of you taken up the habit of throwing rocks at the ice on the crim dell? Its really quite fun. and apparently passersby are pretty interested in the behavior. Just the other day laura and I were throwing rocks at the ice and three different groups of people stopped to watch, the last of which even joined in the rock throwing. So let this be a message to all of you: don't miss the joys of winter, throw rocks at ice.
Thomas, this is for you. I thought you would appreciate a picture of the garbage people threw out onto the ice.

Sauna
So there's a sauna in the gym and I'm trying to check that out. Apparently there are like a bajillion health benefits to it. It detoxifies and hydrates the skin, increases white blood cell and antibody production, cleanses the respiratory system, kills bacteria, stimulates blood flow, and increases metabolism, causing the same cardiac load as a brisk walk.
Unfortunately, saunas seem kinda gay. It's usually a bunch of guys sitting in a room mostly or entirely naked and sweating heavily. That's the wrong kind hot, my friends. Plus I don't know the protocol. Are you supposed to bring a friend or is that even gayer? If you don't then who do you talk to? Should you bring a book or something? Is talking to other guys while everyone's mostly naked kind of gay? Can you become gay from going to the sauna?
I may try it today, if I don't chicken out. If you have any information on the subject though, holla atcha boy. See you all at Swanky Saturday!

Making Plans
Does anybody know of anything going on tomorrow (Tuesday) ? Becki's probably coming up which means Barrett 229 will probably be restocking on beverages, which means we should probably pregame and party. Tuesday Night Ragers seem to have died with the fall of 118 Griffin, but there still ought to be SOMETHING to do.
Hypothetically, if there really isn't anything going on, is everyone busy or would people show up to a get-together here? I don't want to commit to anything without consulting my co-conspirator, but I think it's time for a little drinkin'. Comment with responses.

Wake-Up Playlist
As many of you know, waking up at 8am every morning is at least ten different kinds of fucking shitty. However, add-drop is over and I no longer have the option of backing out, so one of the things I've been doing to help me wake up in the morning is listen to a fast-tempo song over and over and over.
Unfortunately, as you can imagine, after about a week of listening to that same goddamn song I would rather repeatedly punch myself in the eardrum than wake up to it again. So I had a brilliant idea: make a playlist! And since our blog's readership is into most hell of diverse and eclectic musics I'd like some suggestions for what to put on it.
But I don't want none of that bitch-ass, tori amos, 20 BPM, play it for your grandma bullshit. I am talking about jamz to knock your goddamn PJs off. I'm looking for songs that make you want to wake it up and break it down. So pick a few songs (I said a FEW) that you think should be on this playlist and hopefully it will rock my world.

SHOWERS FORSERIOUS
Okay has anyone else in Barrett been having trouble with them showers?
So I go to the shower and turn the water on as hot as possible. Then I use the restroom, wash my hands, look at myself in the mirror a lot, and then go back to the water and it is still ice cold. So I stare at the running water and put my hand in the water until it is sort of lukewarm at which point i jump in the shower to discover it is still very cold. So I stand out of the water naked and shivering until there is the slightest bit of warmth and take a very lukewarm shower until a few minutes before my bathing time is through there is finally hot water.
This has been happening for like a week now
seriously, what the fuck

Barrett Breakfasts
I've decided that it's time I started eating breakfast. Real, hardcore, not fucking around breakfast, not that pansy ass UC bullshit. So I've decided to start making breakfast, probably at about 8:00 am or 8:30.
Right now this project is in the brainstorming phase, so I'd like to get some feedback. Is anyone interested in participating? If so, how frequently? What should be on the menu? I need this information so I can buy materials. Right now I'm thinking Tuesday/Thursday, with different foods on different days.
I plan on doing a test run tomorrow. Andy, Laura, and myself are as of right now the only participants. Comment if you're interested in general, and text me if you want in on the test run so I know how much to make. On the menu right now is:
French toast
Eggs (scrambled, over medium, etc.)
Omelets (fillings may vary)
Oatmeal
Cheerios
Banana pancakes
Bagels and lox
Bacon, if necessary
assorted fruit
Orange juice
The test run will only feature cheerios, french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon cheese omelets, bananas, orange juice, and coffee.

wtfsnow?
OK FINE
I will post my schedule.
But first I will have you know that I just took the longest shower ever and it was so wonderfully lovely. Sup 35 minutes of hot water.
American Welfare State - GOVT 360 01
FR SEM: Socialsomething aspects of drugs - PSYCH 150 01
Painting Structure - ART 315 01
Principles of Microeconomics - ECON 101 01
and hopefuly
Hinduism - RELG 213
Also what are everyone's plans this weekend? I haven't heard of much going down.
ALSO do any of you guys go to the gym to use machines and whatnot? I really need to start going but I hate going to gyms alone.
Okay I'm still wearing a towel. I'd better get dressed before my roomate gets back and wonders what I am doing.

Schedules?
Seems like we're all posting our schedules, so here's mine:
FR SEM:Confucianism & Daoism - CHIN 150 01
or
FR SEM:Intro to Psychology - PSYC 150 01
Greek Philosophy - CLCV 331 01
Intro to Creative Writing - ENGL 212 05
Latin American Politics - GOVT 338 02
Calculus II - MATH 112 04
Anyways, I'm off to the outlet malls to pick up some gloves, and then I'm going to the York River State Park to check out the bike trails. Hopefully afterwards I'll be able to go to the gym but after any strenuous activity I usually have to set aside about half an hour to hack up a fucking lung. My body still hasn't really gotten with the program on this whole not smoking thing so getting exercise can be tricky. I have to be done by a reasonable hour though so Noelle and I can pick up some materials for Mexican Food Night, which everyone is invited to.

classes
So here I am on the first morning of classes, and already I do not feel like getting out of bed to attend my lecture. Not a good start. Hopefully things shape up a bit.
What classes is everyone taking?
right now I am signed up for:
CSCI 241 - Data Structures
RELG 213 - Hinduism
PSYC 202 - Intro to psych as a social science
ENGL 150w - Fresh Sem: JRR Tolkien and Medieval Code
PHIL 201 - Intro to Philosophy
I am actually pretty excited about my schedule this semester. Aside from discrete math, of course. Good luck with your first day of classes, everyone.

TODAY IS ANDY'S BIRTHDAY
Apparently I am the only one who cares enough to write about Andy's birthday, jerks.
Right now I am full of delicious food because Andy's mom took us out for birthday dinner. MMmmm.
From me, Andy received an awesome haircut and awesome shirt and some other less awesome things. Best girlfriend ever!
We will be back in wburg tomorrow! Excited to see you guys again!
(Except William who I saw at Andy's bday party but who was extremely lame and left like 5 minutes after beer run. LAMELAMELAME)

Sensitive Nipples
I went running last night in a long underwear shirt, and let me tell you my nipples hurt something FIERCE. The cold weather got them all erect and then a combination of repetitive motion of the running and rough fabric of the shirt actually rubbed them raw.
Anyway, I tried singing and dancing in the shower this morning and since I can't sing or dance without music I had to take some speakers and my laptop into the bathroom with me. Unfortunately, my nipples were still so raw that I had to dance without putting them directly into the stream of water. That didn't stop me from getting my freak on though, I jammed out for so long when I finally finished it had been like an hour and a half.
The moral of the story is you shouldn't play music and dance in the shower because it wastes hella copious amounts of water. That and it can be dangerous if there's no grip left on your shower floor and my feet were all soaped up and slippery. Thank god I didn't land on my nipples.

WTF OFFICE?!
What the fuck just happened on the office?! My whole world is turning upside down. I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it. I need an office discussion group.

Does anybody read this?
I am beginning to suspect that due to the combination of infrequent posting and lack of interesting content, no one reads our blog. The solution: n00dz. If we started posting some hawt n00dz regularly I think we could easily triple our viewership. Andy, as the only trifecta member to currently possess both tasteful and high resolution n00dz, I motion you post first.
My second order of business is to plug my sister's new and totally bitchin' blog which focuses on her experiences traveling and studying abroad in Singapore, a tiny island city-state on the tip of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Expect stunning photography of the city and fascinating entries with a journalistic flair.
In case anyone was wondering how my Urban Dead career is going, I just completed an ambitious mission to gather statistical evidence proving to the world just how safe my suburb, Lamport Hills, really is. The venture, dubbed Operation GLH, was a raging success and the danger level has been updated to green. Some twenty DEM members came together flawlessly under my instruction. Hopefully the top brass will take note and consider me for the position of Fire Marshall for NE District 2.
In other news, I have decided to become a wine connoisseur. I will be buying a bottle of wine every week for the rest of the school year and anyone who'd like to try it is welcome to come by and have a glass or two with me any time. You see, if we don't educate ourselves on these issues, who will?
Actually, come to think of it, this might do better as a weekly event. Tuesday Tastings, perhaps, or Wino Wednesdays. A suitable name can be found if the idea is implemented. We could make a Facebook group in the style of Muffin Mondays. If we kept it relatively small like Muffin Mondays we could get away with buying less wine, or we could take donations, or both. Thoughts? Input?
